The Haven Women of Philanthropy – Gainesville and the Haven Women of Philanthropy – Lake City both recently met to select projects to fund to benefit Haven Hospice patients and families. The Gainesville group was presented with six projects and the Lake City group was presented with five projects.

“Haven is fortunate to have the support of the Haven Women of Philanthropy, both in Gainesville and Lake City,” said Sharon Jones, Haven’s Vice President of Development & Executive Director of the Haven Foundation. “The members are passionate about Haven and are eager to participate in helping fund projects that will make a difference for hospice patients, their families and the community.”

Each year, numerous projects are presented by Haven clinical team members who are subject matter experts. After being introduced to the projects and hearing the presentations, the Haven Women of Philanthropy members are able to ask questions and discuss, then vote on which projects to fund. Funding is provided through the annual membership dues of $500 from each member.

This year the Haven Women of Philanthropy – Gainesville voted to divide $13,000 between four projects: a Gator Students for Haven Hospice scholarship, installation of baby changing stations at the E.T. York Hospice Care Center, placement of bird feeders outside of patient rooms at the E.T. York Hospice Care Center and the funding of special purchases for the Haven Dementia Care Program.

The Haven Women of Philanthropy – Lake City voted to divide $31,000 among all five projects: a backpack initiative for home care nurses, special purchases for the Haven Dementia Care Program, a blanket warmer for the Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center, veteran quilt supplies and Haven clips for medical information on patients’ refrigerators. This is the Lake City group’s first year of voting on projects to fund. In addition to meeting yearly to vote on these projects, the Haven Women of Philanthropy hold an annual education program, like this year’s social at the Matheson History Museum, as well as several other social events at members’ homes and event venues throughout the year. We thank the Haven Women of Philanthropy for their contributions and for so carefully choosing how these dollars can make a difference for the patients and families Haven serves.
